2006 – Freshcare Environmental Code – 1st Edition

Publication of the Guidelines for Environmental Assurance in Australian Horticulture in April 2006 was closely followed by the publication of the ‘Freshcare Code of Practice Environmental, 1st Edition August 2006’.

The Freshcare ‘Environmental Code’ has been slowly gaining momentum.   While there is considerable interest, investment and activity in on-farm environmental aspects, there are no direct market signals for growers to become certified to an environmental standard.

Interest in the Freshcare Environmental Code of Practice is expanding to horticulture and agriculture sectors beyond fresh produce, as the Code is designed as a generic property environmental assurance program.

With the continuing focus on managing water, biodiversity, energy, emissions and other environmental issues; farmers from all sectors will come under pressure to demonstrate good environmental practices in order to maintain access to essential natural resources.
