What is a traceability exercise?

A traceability exercise is the ability of a business to identify and trace a product through all stages, that is from the raw materials used all the way through to the finished dispatched product in the supply chain.

What is the purpose of a traceability exercise?

The traceability exercise is used to verify the effectiveness of a business’s traceability system of a product from production to its destination / immediate customer or (vice versa) is achieved.

What is a mock recall?

A mock recall is a practice run for a real recall. It is used to test all steps in your business’s recall procedure and identify any gaps or weaknesses in your procedure.

In a mock recall you do not need to notify customers, but you do need to keep a record of this activity.

How often do I need to conduct a traceability exercise and mock recall?

It must be tested at least once annually.

How can I use a traceability exercise for my mock recall?

A mock recall involves testing the performance of the traceability system by conducting traceability activities.

For businesses that also need to do a mock recall, the traceability exercise is incorporated into the mock recall exercise. There is no need to do this separately.
