Freshcare Two Part Audit Process

Freshcare has developed a framework that will allow remote audit activities to be undertaken for all Standards through the use of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This framework establishes a process for Freshcare approved Certification Bodies to undertake a two-part audit process, combining ICT remote audit activities with an on-site assessment.

The framework aligns with GFSI benchmarking requirements and will be available as an option for re-certification audits to all Freshcare Standards.

What is the two-part audit process?

Freshcare has developed a process to enable participating businesses to have their annual re-certification audits conducted in two parts:

  • Part A – remote audit component using information communication technology (ICT); and
  • Part B – completion of the audit through an on-site visit.

This option is available to all participating businesses, who can meet the criteria and mutually agree to the audit process with their Certification Body.

The two-part audit process is voluntary and shall be agreed with the participating business and the Certification Body.

The same auditor must complete both Part A and Part B unless there are extenuating circumstances.

Part A and Part B audits must be completed within a maximum of 30 days.

Part A can commence prior to harvest/operational months as long as Part B is finished within harvest/operational months and the two-parts are completed within 30 days.

What is information communication technology (ICT)?

Information communication technology (ICT) is a fancy word for using internet-based tools to share documents and conduct meetings and review documents and records. This includes such things as shared document boxes (Dropbox, Sharepoint, email) and the use of video conferences such as Zoom, Cisco Webex, Google Hangouts, etc. It may also include other features like wearable technology such as ‘Google Glasses’.

The ICT option used will be determined by your Certification Body in conjunction with individual businesses.

Participating businesses will need to meet minimum requirements (e.g. stable internet connection) for the ICT audit component to be undertaken effectively.

Audits that can be conducted using a two-part audit process

Freshcare audits that can be conducted using a two-part audit process include:

  • Re-certification audits to all Standards
  • Scope upgrades:
    • where it is not the inclusion of a new site (crop scope upgrade), based on risk, remote only is permitted.
    • where it is the addition of a new site and not greater than four (4) months until the next audit, remote audit permitted until the next audit due.
  • Agent/Broker scope under the Supply Chain Standard can be competed fully remotely, particularly where they operate as a virtual site.

Audits that are not covered under the two-part audit process

Audits that cannot be conducted using a two-part audit process include:

  • Initial audits to all Standards
  • Unannounced audits.
